Nursing (LPN Track)

Why study the Nursing (LPN Track) at Riverland?

In our practical nursing program, you will prepare to become an LPN in as few as 12 months by completing the full-time day program, or, slightly longer, in the part-time evening option.

At Riverland, you will learn from compassionate experts who have centered their working lives around helping nurses grow and succeed—from faculty members, support staff, academic advisors, tutors, financial aid experts, and tech support.

Our job is to support you from your very first step in our affordable Practical Nursing Program by providing two program options.

  • Full-time day, 2 semesters Fall and Spring held at the Austin West Campus.
  • Part-time evening, 4 semesters Spring, Summer (clinical only), Fall, Summer (clinical only). This program is designed for the working adult, held at the Owatonna High School and Austin West Campus on a rotating schedule.

Both options have the same program application requirements. These programs have a mix of in-person courses, on-campus lab simulations, and clinical experiences. You will develop the knowledge you need to take the NCLEX-PN® licensure exam and become a safe, practicing Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

The Practical Nursing Diploma program is a great way to get into a nursing role. Many LPNs are satisfied with their careers as a hands-on care provider. However, if you decide to advance your education to increase your scope of practice, our Practical Nursing program will provide the foundation for you to prepare for a role as a Registered Nurse.

What Will I Study?

  • Graduates of the Practical Nursing Program will integrate general education, including science coursework, with the discipline of nursing coursework (PNUR) as the basis for nursing practice and ongoing life-long learning.
  • The Practical Nursing Program will prepare the student with the knowledge, skills, and values of a practical nurse (PN) for entry-level practice. After approval by the ÃÛÌÒTV Board of Nursing, the student will then be eligible to take the licensing examination for the licensed practical nurse (NCLEX-PN). The student is eligible to enter practice when licensed and/or may apply to the Nursing (RN Track) program with advanced standing.
